Alert
BBB is warning individuals looking to buy shoes that have some zing to them. Glitter Kicks LLC claims that they offer “blinged out” brand name shoes, such as Nike® or Adidas®. Nike has stated to BBB that Glitterkicks.com/Glitter Kicks LLC is not an approved/authorized Nike retailer.
BBB has received over 100 complaints, mainly regarding non-receipt of the shoes, shipping of incorrect products or poor quality workmanship when adding the “bling.”
Other issues are also of concern to BBB, including the use of comparison prices on their shoes. In one instance, the business lists a Nike® Roshe shoe for $116 with a crossed-out price of $235, implying that the shoe was previously priced at $235. When asked about this comparison price, the business did not respond. BBB was unable to find the shoe online for a price close to $235. In fact, all of the shoes (even other “blinged out” shoes online) were lower than the crossed-out price on Glitterkick.com. Using a price reduction that is not substantiated can mislead consumer to believe they are saving money, which may not be the case.
Glitter Kicks adds a $3.00 a month fee to your cart (which can be deleted if you catch it) for “Lifetime Glitter Insurance.” Consumers report that they were unaware that this charge was a monthly fee, realizing only after money continued to be charged each month. The language describing this fee is not clear. According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the disclosure of the monthly negative option fee should not only clearly disclose the fact that there is a negative option feature and provide the cost, but it also should explain how consumers can cancel. While the business includes this fee in the cart, it is confusing at best and could be considered misleading.
Complaints have been received from consumers in 33 states, including one from Utah. Most of the women’s shoes on the site are more than $100, with kids shoes being more than $78. As with most online retailers, the shoes are paid for on the website with a credit card.
The business changed their shipping time from 8-14 days in 2015, to 4-6 weeks in 2016, and to what it is today, 4-7 weeks. Unfortunately, consumers say they are still not receiving their product in the promised timeframe.
Consumers do have the ability to dispute a charge on their credit card if the product is not received; however there is a timeframe for this action (usually 60 days).
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires sellers to ship within the advertised time frame. If there is a delayed shipment, the seller must obtain the customer’s consent. If the seller cannot obtain the customer’s consent to the delay, a refund should be promptly sent to the customer.
Unfortunately, Glitter Kicks LLC has not refunded monies as required, nor have they provided the promised product. BBB suggests caution in doing business with Glitterkicks.com. Consumers who did business with the company and are not satisfied are urged to file a complaint with the BBB, so that complete records can be provided to law enforcement.
Pattern of Complaints
Better Business Bureau has received numerous complaints regarding non receipt of products that have been paid for in full, incorrect items being received (and being unable to receive the correct product or receive a refund) or poor quality work on the shoes. The BBB has contacted the business, however the complaints remain unanswered in our files and the pattern of complaints remains.
