On December 14, 2022, the business entered into a settlement with the Northern District of California and the Civil Division's Commercial Litigation Branch. The Assurance settles allegations that the business violated the False Claims Act by improperly originating and underwriting mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration. Under terms of the Assurance, the business agreed to pay $38.5 million to the United States. The Assurance was for settlement purposes only and should not be considered as an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law.
