Refund and Exchange Policy

Petland understands customer returns are a part of doing business, and that returns also help us remain focused on our mission of matching the right pet with the right customer.  The following return procedures address how pet and merchandise returns are to be handled.

General Guidelines

All returns should be accompanied by the original packaging, receipt(s), and other applicable documentation (e.g., puppy, kitten, or bird warranties).

Store staff should use proper discretion when considering the return of any used or opened merchandise, including determining whether the store can confidently resell the merchandise without compromising the health of store pets or employees. 

Puppy Returns (48-Hour)

Petland offers a 48-hour puppy return policy.  While we understand some customers may decide they made a mistake in adopting a Petland puppy for various reasons (demeanor, allergies, concerns from family members, etc.), Petland is subject to considerable financial loss as the puppy ages and becomes more difficult to rehome.  Petland limits the return of a puppy to 48-hours (barring any extraordinary circumstances).  If a customer decides to return a puppy within 48 hours, they may, at the discretion of the store General Manager where the puppy was purchased, return the puppy for a refund of the purchase price less a $750.00 cash administration fee.

When returning a puppy, customers must return all associated documentation (including original receipts, warranty, and veterinarian documents.  Veterinarian documentation that outlines the puppy’s most current exams, treatments, medications, and vaccinations helps ensure the puppy doesn’t experience issues relating to subsequent exams and/or treatments.

Small Animal & Bird Returns

Petland provides a 7-day warranty, with the purchase of food and applicable vitamins for small animals.  If a homecoming kit is purchased during the original transaction, the warranty extends to 6 months from the date of purchase.  The warranty provides for a replacement pet in the unlikely circumstance the pet passes away. 

Fish Returns

Petland provides a 7-day fish replacement warranty for deceased fish.  Customers should provide a water sample prior to taking home a replacement fish. 

General Merchandise

Petland provides a 30-day return policy for general merchandise that is either defective or not meeting the customer’s needs or expectations. 

Food and Treat

Pet foods and treats may be returned in exchange for another brand of pet food or treats so long as at least half of the bag/container contents remain at the time of exchange.

    "The dogs cages aint that clean I seen a lot of p*** and pee with a lot of staff just standing around talking I seen one girl working very hard trying to clean but the ones on the floor actually working not doing a thing except in a huddle talking bout other things, they want to hurry when you are talking bout and signing up for the dog but not after they get the money I told them I was in a hurry my friend was the one getting the dog and it just became a slower and slower process I was told 2-5 mins than 5-10 than just whenever they get the stuff than blaming it on the day of the week, we told them multiple times we are trying to hurry we didnt plan on getting a dog today but theyd go slower and slower, no one was ever at the register waiting on people even ones standing, they didnt tell us about the annual fees either they waited for that phone call to tell us that! I told her next time she can go to a shelter because waiting here a hour and half isnt worth it!"
