Government Actions
U.S., et al., v. RUDY’S PERFORMANCE PARTS, INC.
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
On September 10, 2024, Rudy’s Performance Parts Inc. (Rudy’s), and its owner, Aaron Rudolf, was sentenced in federal court in Washington, D.C., and ordered to pay a criminal fine of $2.4 million for conspiring to violate the Clean Air Act. In total, Rudolf, agreed to pay a total of $10 million in criminal fines and civil penalties for manufacturing, selling and installing devices, commonly known as “defeat devices,” used to remove or disable required emissions controls in motor vehicles. In November 2023, Rudolf pleaded guilty to tampering with monitoring devices on approximately 300 diesel trucks, which involved the installation of defeat devices on those trucks. In April 2024, he was sentenced in April to three years of probation for the crime and ordered to pay a criminal fine of $600,000. The remaining $7 million civil fine is pursuant to a consent decree to be approved by a court.
