In October 2023, Better Business Bureau recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding delivery and customer service issues. Consumers allege they ordered and paid for high-end chicken coops from Chicken Coop Builders, LLC and never received them. Any attempt to work with Chicken Coop Builders to receive a status update on delivery or request refunds was ignored.
According to Montana Secretary of State on https://biz.sosmt.gov/, Chicken Coop Builders’ license C1219279 is listed as “Involuntary Dissolution” on December 1, 2022.
On October 25, 2023, BBB spoke with the owner of Chicken Coop Builders, Caleb Benson requesting the status of the dissolved Montana Secretary of State business registration. Mr. Benson clarified that the business Chicken Coop Builders LLC was no longer in operation.
Upon further investigation, BBB was able to discover that through social media platforms, Chicken Coop Builders was continuing to advertise the chicken coops for sale. In an attempt to clarify Chicken Coop Builders' active operation, BBB performed a business secret shop.
On November 7, 2023, BBB contacted Chicken Coop Builders requesting information on purchasing an “Elegant Coop”. Chicken Coop Builders' response was as follows: “Thanks for reaching out! If you want to fill out this order form this is the coop model and what we offer with our services. This order is something we can start working on in December. Depending on the weather we can plan for an early spring delivery and set up. We are located in Billings, so we are not too far away.” It was clear to BBB the business is still operating.
BBB has determined that the original website chickencoopbuilders.com is no longer active but Chicken Coop Builders continues to operate using Etsy, Instagram, Facebook, and the Simple Home Upgrades & Associates platforms.
It has come to BBB’s attention that Chicken Coop Builders is requesting that a customer withdraw complaints filed through BBB. Chicken Coop Builders has threatened legal action if the consumer does not remove the complaints. BBB does not withdraw complaints under these circumstances.
On November 14, 2023, BBB reached out to Chicken Coop Builders regarding the pattern of complaints by both mail and email requesting a response as well as clarification on the business's current business license and is waiting for a response.
Based on the information detailed above, BBB cannot state with confidence that Chicken Coop Builders LLC is operating in the best interest of the consumer. BBB recommends that if you have had any negative business transactions with the business to file a complaint with the Montana Department of Justice at https://dojmt.gov/ and with the BBB at https://www.bbb.org/.
