Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Vs. TD Bank

As of September 11, 2024 the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) ordered TD Bank to pay $7.76 million to tens of thousands of victims of the bank’s illegal actions. For years, the bank repeatedly shared inaccurate, negative information about its customers to consumer reporting companies. The information included systemic errors about credit card delinquencies and bankruptcies. In addition to the redress, the CFPB is ordering TD Bank to pay a $20 million civil money penalty.

As of October 10, 2024, TD Bank is paying $3 billion to settle charges that it failed to stop drug cartels from laundering money through its accounts. The US government found that TD Bank did not properly monitor transactions, which allowed criminal networks to move more than $670 million through the bank. This failure led to a record fine of $1.3 billion to the US Treasury, along with another $1.8 billion to the Department of Justice.
