The International Star Registry originated the concept of naming stars in 1979. It allows customers to christen a star in the sky with the name of someone special, be it a spouse, child, family member, or friend, and records the new name with the star's telescopic coordinates in the book "Your Place in the Cosmos" which is recorded in the United States copyright office. Each unique star is only named once. The gift package can be ordered either framed or unframed, with the new star name, the dedication date, and the telescopic coordinates of that unique star. The book, "Your Place in the Cosmos," is the only published catalog of star names in the world. It is copyrighted so that others can look up the star name along with its location. This listing is not, nor is it intended to be, recognized by the scientific community, but it is protected by copyright law.
