BBB files indicate that Boutiquerugs.com advertises list prices for each product, alongside a significant savings claim, which typically ranges from 60-80% or more. As of March 13, 2023, the company has not provided BBB with information that would allow BBB to substantiate the savings claims.

BBB’s request was initiated with the company after reviewing their website at boutiquerugs.com. BBB noted that all rugs sold on the site list the manufacturer as Hauteloom. BBB also noted that every product being sold on the company’s website at Boutiquerugs.com contains list prices that appear as a range of prices that are then struck through and replaced with a considerably lower retail price range.

Each product also contains a savings claim that coincides with the difference between the original list price and list price. As noted above, BBB noted that the savings claims consistently range from 60-80% or more.

On November 22, 2022, BBB contacted the company and requested information to identify the basis for the savings claims. The company responded to BBB later that day and stated that the list prices represented the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).

Section 6 of BBB’s Code of Advertising states the following with regards to the use of list prices in adverting:

6. List prices: 
“List price,” “manufacturer's list price,” “reference price,” “suggested retail price,” and similar terms, hereinafter collectively referred to as “list price,” may be used deceptively to state or imply a savings which was not, in fact, the case. To the extent that a list price does not in fact correspond to the price at which substantial sales of the product in question have been made, the advertisement of a reduction may mislead the consumer. Such a comparison must be substantiated by the advertiser prior to making any advertised comparison.

BBB requested that the company provide documentation to show that the list prices represent the price at which significant inventory has been sold in the past. The company has not provided the requested information.
