Alert
In 2012 BBB received complaints alleging the owner of J&M Computers Co., Justin Michael, used this business as a front in a scheme to trick victims into wiring him money for tariffs needed to receive international goods. Complainants reported that Justin Michael first established a long distance relationship with his victims and that this relationship influenced their decision to send him money. Our research indicates the scammer has gone by at least four different names and claimed to own at least four different computer stores. For more information please see the following reports: Brad Computers Co., Bran Computers Co., and B & M Computers Co.
BBB is warning consumers to be wary if they find themselves in similar situations. Scammers sometimes use a technique known as "cat fishing" or a "romance scam" by which they gain a victim's trust by first establishing a romantic relationship before ultimately asking for money. For more information about this type of scam, watch our Torch Talk video.
